Past Gatherings:

Sunday September 11th 2016

Jerrabomberra Wetlands

Jerrabomberra Creek just before it enters Lake Burley Griffin which flows down to the Molongolo rivers to join with the mighty Murrumbidgee River at Uriarra Crossing. The name Jerrabomberra is derived from the local Aboriginal place name meaning ‘Boy frightened by storm’. The headwaters of the Murrumbidgee system are regulated by a series of dams that have greatly modified flows & impacted on the health of the river system. The Murrumbidgee drains much of southern NSW. The ACT is an important source of water for the Riverina farming area.

Let’s send our gratitude to the river for its life giving water.

Sunday September 181th 2016 Molonglo & Queanbeyan river BLESSING

Bless the junction of Molonglo & Queanbeyan Rivers. From the Lake it flows down to meet the at Uriarra Crossing with the mighty Murrumbidgee River. The name Molonglo is derived from “Yeal-am-bid-gie” Mooloinggolah name for the river. The suffix ‘bidgee’ was common in Aboriginal languages for rivers in the Canberra area and probably means water or river. The Moolinggolah people of Captains Flat probably gave the river its name.
